We are looking for

Do you want to contribute to our mission “To improve human health through better nutrition”? We are expanding our activities at Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands and as part of this development we invite applications for a tenure-track position in the field of Food, Nutrition and Gastrointestinal Health. This position is part of a program to fulfill five (!) tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Division of Human Nutrition and Health.

We ask

We are looking for a scientist with a background in food science, nutritional science, or (bio)medicine. The candidate is expected to develop a research line focused on the investigation of the impact of personalized food design on characteristics related to oral processing behavior, food  digestion and nutrient absorption. Activities ideally range from modelling studies in silico and in vitro to intervention studies in human volunteers. Of particular interest is the investigation of the impact of food processing on food digestion and nutrient absorption. This position is shared between the Division of Human Nutrition and Health and the chair group Food Quality and Product Design. More information can be found here.

The Division of Human Nutrition and Health is one of the largest academic units worldwide dedicated to the study of nutrition. By integrating the complementary expertise of five chair groups, the Division is perfectly organized to pursue a multidisciplinary approach in nutrition research at the level of the cell, the individual, and the population. One of the unique features of this division is the ability to cover the full causal chain from determinants of food choice and dietary assessment, to detailed quantification and characterization of health and disease using state-of-the-art methodology, and investigation of the underlying molecular mechanisms.

The Food Quality and Design (FQD) group studies in an integrative way how ingredients and processing can be used to optimize food quality throughout the food chain. The group has unique expertise in the in vitro digestion and the impact of food design on the actual calorie absorption by human body.

Research infrastructure
We offer an excellent research infrastructure, an attractive salary, and a stimulating working environment. This shared research infrastructure consists of a recently built and fully equipped molecular research laboratory and the Health Research Unit, both supported by a highly qualified staff. The Health Research Unit is a modern research facility for performing human nutritional trials in a highly controlled setting. Because of the shared nature of our research infrastructure, you do not need to invest in setting up own research laboratories. As a researcher this offers you a head start and focus on your research.

Tenure Track
We initially offer a fixed-term, 7 year contract which upon positive evaluation will lead to a permanent employment contract. The candidate is expected to enroll into the Tenure Track program of Wageningen University. Tenure Track is a career path for ambitious scientists dedicated to teaching and research. The career path consists of a number of successive career steps from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor to possibly Full Professor. Upon enrollment into the Tenure Track system, all candidates are also expected to substantially contribute to teaching and mentoring BSc and MSc students within the degree program in Nutrition and Health, as well as possibly other programs. For your personal development we offer you the ‘Development program Tenure Track’. This program supports you in further development of your competences. We also offers you the possibility to gain the Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) which is a requirement in the Tenure Track policy.

We offer a competitive salary. The salary scale depends on your experience and seniority level. We offer a full working week of 38 hours in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement Dutch Universities, part-time for 0.8 fte is also possible.
