The world around us is changing quickly. Many global developments and challenges are important for our strategy and thus for the future course of Wageningen University & Research. Particularly important are issues such as global population growth, the need for safe and healthy food, overtaxing the carrying capacity of the earth, conservation of nature and biodiversity and alleviating poverty. But external developments also affect our course, such as shifts in research funding and the fact that the direction of our education is influenced by technology and growing student enrolment.
Moreover, global economic and international relations are changing constantly. Wageningen University & Research endeavours to have a real impact on society by working closely together with various parties and partners from science, government, society and business.
The Strategic Plan 2015-2018 not only describes the direction Wageningen University & Research will take over the next four years, but also demonstrates the unique strength of our organisation: the distinctive combination of fundamental and applied science, education and research. By choosing the five research themes shown below, Wageningen University & Research has made a commitment to more synergy between fundamental and applied research and education at Wageningen University & Research, and within scientific disciplines. In the area of research, collaboration with partners in science, government, society and business will be intensified in the Netherlands and abroad. The goals of the Strategic Plan will be realised step-by-step by identifying priority areas for each year of the Plan.
