Food and water security

Food and water security

(KB-35) This programme focusses on SDG2 “Zero Hunger”. Extreme hunger and malnutrition remain a huge barrier to development in many countries. About 828 million people are estimated to be chronically undernourished (2021). The aim is to end all forms of hunger and malnutrition by 2030 by making sure that all people have access to sufficient and nutritious food all year round. The context of depleting fresh water resources, land and soil degradation and climate change combined with a fast-growing and urbanising population and disturbances in international trade will exacerbate the challenge of achieving SDG2. Since most challenges in achieving Zero Hunger lie in low and middle income countries, this programme focusses on these regions.

Our mission

Our mission: We will contribute to Zero Hunger by combining our interdisciplinary knowledge in the agri-food and water domains to shape the transitions towards sustainable food systems.
