Climate action is a major global challenge, both in terms of mitigation (lowering CO2 emissions) and adaptation to existing or future threats such as flooding and heat events. The cluster focuses on the following three subtopics:
- Urban Climate research is about designing urban environments that respond to the atmospheric climate parameters (e.g. heat, wind) and future exacerbation through climate change.
- Water research is about the design, planning and implementation of interventions in large river systems and coastal areas (e.g. water storage; replacement of large hydraulic structures; marine spatial planning).
- The Energy Transitions from fossil-based to renewable sources will have substantial spatial implications. Energy transitions will reshape the landscapes and cities of tomorrow, and require innovative design and planning solutions.
