Wageningen Food Safety Research develops methods for fast measurements of veterinary drug residues, environmental contaminants and allergenic proteins in food production chains.

Assays which can be conducted both within and outside of the lab have been the prime focus of our research. In addition to special assays based on specific antibodies, Wageningen Food Safety Research also develops assays based on generic antibodies and transport proteins which can confirm the presence of groups of substances.

One of the types of analyses used at the Wageningen Food Safety Research laboratory is the ELISA, a quick and simple screening test. Wageningen Food Safety Research has developed an ELISA for chloramphenicol which uses very specific antibodies. This ELISA allows us to quickly detect the remnants of contraband veterinary drugs. This test is commercially available and is currently used all over the world.
