Animal models for animal health CRO Contract Research Organization Bioveterinary

Animal models for animal health

We have a broad portfolio of animal models for various pathogens, which can be supported with extensive laboratory analyses. Based on this experience, we can develop customized animals models with specific isolates or new pathogens for customers.

Innovative technology

During the experiment, data from animals such as body temperature, clinical signs, behaviour or feed intake are captured using our validated electronic data capture system. We invest in research into the use of innovative sensor technology to allow real time monitoring of animal health and welfare like telemetric devices or video monitoring. Subcutaneous temperature sensors, continuous breathing frequency or heart rate determination and registration of movement of animals are under development.

Complementary analyses

In addition to these data, complementary analyses can be included to monitor host responses and pathogen load in more detail. These analyses can include, but are not restricted to, microbiology, immunology, pathology and gene expression analyses. In addition, putative effects on microbiota composition, for example in the gut, on the skin or in the lungs can be determined. Due to a strong collaboration within Wageningen University & Research, experts on animal nutrition, animal welfare and animal husbandry are available for consultancy.
