Fisheries Research

Fisheries refers to the management and exploitation of natural fish populations. To date, capture fisheries supplies much of the fish consumed in the world. We analyse how factors such as fisheries exploitation, climate change, eutrophication and socio-economic environments affect the structure of fish communities, food-web dynamics, and their resilience. We study the ecology of freshwater and marine species and the adaptation of fishes and fisheries to changing circumstances.

Our fisheries research is closely aligned with that of Wageningen Marine Research, an applied research institute part of the Animal Sciences Group which provides advice on the sustainable management and practical knowledge on especially marine and coastal areas.
