Participating groups
WIAS combines the research of thirteen chair groups of Wageningen University withing the domain of animal sciences. At the moment, more than 200 PhD candidates are enrolled in WIAS. About 50% are international PhD candidates. WIAS's scientific staff consists of about 100 faculty members from 14 chair groups; 27 are full-time or part-time professors. There are about 32 postdocs. Of the Contract Research Organisations 32 researchers of the Animal Sciences Group of Wageningen UR are associated member of WIAS
There are various cooperations of WIAS researchers with other researchers within and outside their science group or institute, thus creating important connections between disciplines.

The groups cooperate in three clusters:
- "Animals in Future Food Systems and Society"-cluster, consisting of the chair groups ADP/AFI/ANU/APS
- "Population Dynamics and Genomics"-cluster, consisting of the chair groups ABG/MAE/QVE
- "Integrative Animal Biology"-cluster, consisting of the chair groups BHE/CBI/EZO/HAP/HMI/WEC
