Food System Analysis
This project will focus on reviewing, refining and developing the concept and framework of food systems from nutrition and sustainability perspective, and methods, metrics and tools to analyze how a range of food system activities contribute, positively or negatively, to diet quality and how they are influenced by environmental, economic, social, cultural and policy processes.
These will be used to characterize diets especially in the focus countries, to determine crucial diet quality gaps, and link diet trends for nutritious foods, such as fruit, vegetables, and ASF to current food systems transformations. Special attention is paid to the synergies and trade-offs, in terms of nutritional, environmental (land and water use, biodiversity), and equity outcomes. This work will also examine the influence of policies (international, national and subnational) and the political economy of policy changes, especially the implications for different socioeconomic and gender groups.
