Step 3: How to apply for an exchange period?

The application tool for study exchange is closed (deadline was February 1st, 23h59).

It will re-open again on March 9th after the first selection round has finished.

A list of available exchange spots and an application form will be published from March 9th onwards on this website.

Please check this page regularly for updates.

As many students want to go on exchange and we have limited places available, we have a selection round in February for the next academic year (for exchange during the 1st semester and also for exchange during the 2nd semester).

Before filling in the application form:

Having decided about your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice.

(if applicable, including the faculty you want to apply for)

Important note:
Please strongly consider your application. It is very unfortunate if you are selected and decide not to go without a strong reason. It often means other people cannot go to the place you were selected for.

Have prepared the following documents (in pdf):

    • Motivation letter for your first choice university (in PDF format), in English, a maximum of 1 page of A4 format

    • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

    • Results English Language test (optional) 

      Filling in the application form:

      • The deadline for submitting the application form is February, 1st, 2021, 23h59
      • We will retrieve your Study Progress Overview directly from OSIRIS. However, due to the switch from SPA to Osiris some of your courses might not be included in your study programme anymore. Therefore we want to ask you to check in Osiris (click here) if all your courses have been transferred correctly. It is important that before February 1st all your grades are listed on the SPO, also your electives. If that is not the case (you may find some courses in the section called “Other”) please contact your Study Advisor to determine what action is needed to correct your study programme.
      • If a question is mandatory to fill in, and you do not know the right answer, you can write for instance “unknown”

        After submitting the form:

        Students will be informed about the selection results around the 1st of March. We try to select students based on their first choice. The 2nd and 3rd choice places will also be taken into consideration. In some cases it may not be possible to be selected for any of your chosen universities. In that case we will consult with you and will try to find a suitable alternative. 

        If you applied for semester 2 (from January-February till June), your study progress has to be proved before nomination in autumn.

        Important note about Massey University, New Zealand: there's no physical exchange possible during the 1st semester of 2021 (start September '21).

        Important note about the COVID-19 pandemic

        The COVID-19 pandemic is far from over which causes uncertainty whether exchange in the study year 2021-2022 can take place as usual.  The start date of the exchange programme, the destination with its national or institutional travel restrictions, the travel policy of the Dutch government and of Wageningen University & Research will affect whether or not the exchange for you will go ahead. For WUR it is important that the exchange destination is green or yellow at the start of the exchange programme. Still, more severe restrictions might be introduced any moment. Chances that student exchange can proceed as normal are more likely for the 2nd semester, especially the non-EU destinations might not yet be accessible in the 1st semester. To reduce risks of cancellation, if possible, take this into account when making your choice.
