TKI graduate school call

In addition to the already planned or running local graduate programme calls from the graduate schools VLAG, WIAS, PE&RC and EPS, the TKIs Agri & Food (A&F) and Tuinbouw & Uitgangsmaterialen (T&U) will fund 4 PhD proposals written by MSc students.  The details of the call can be found in the enclosed appendices. The call will be carried out by the graduate schools VLAG, WIAS, PE&RC and EPS. Per top sector, there is budget to fund 2 PhD proposals. Applicants are asked to indicate in which TKI their proposal would fit best. After the deadline, the graduate schools together with A&F and T&U will make the final decision which proposals will be evaluated under A&F or T&U.

Calltext:

The call is written in Dutch. An English translation is enclosed. However, the Dutch call is the valid and leading text.

Who can apply:

PhD proposals, written by MSc students can be submitted by a consortium, consisting of at least one research group that is a member of EPS, PE&RC, VLAG and WIAS together with at least one private partner. One or more public partners may also take part in the consortium. A researcher with a tenured position at an NWO-eligible knowledge institution acts on behalf of the consortium as the main applicant. The proposed PhD candidate will defend the proposal during the interview and it is his/her performance which will be taken into account in the assessment.

Applicants with a private partner may submit to both the internal WIAS graduate program and TKI. In that case, the interviews and decision-making for the TKI round and the internal call will be coordinated. Wageningen projects with a private partner that are not selected by the TKI committee may still have a chance of internal WIAS funding. A separate interview will be held for the selection of the WIAS positions, in which the candidates will be tested against the WIAS criteria.

Assessment criteria:
Applications are assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

1. Quality of the candidate and research group;

2. Scientific quality of the proposal;

3. Research relevance and perspectives for utilisation.

The three criteria are given equal weight in the final score for the application.

Planning:

Deadline for applications:          15 September 2020
Interviews committte:              October 2020
Decision:                            End of October 2020

Applicants should send their applications to Ingrid.Vleghels@wur.nl.
