Villa park
In 1924 architect Jan Visser (1875-1946) and John Bergmans purchased some building plots from the Eindhoven cigar factory owner D. Meerstadt in Oisterwijk.
The plots were surrounded by woods and located in the Gemullehoeken villa park, also known as ’t Klompven, an area that was already partially developed. In 1919, Hotel Bosch en Ven and a number of small villas had been built around the central lake. Bergmans and Visser were able to establish their project office at the hotel.

Bergmans designed the plots’ dewatering plan and greenery, while Visser built a model villa with atelier (Klompven 14 and 15) to attract buyers. Unfortunately, the project went bankrupt in 1928, but Bergmans remained involved in the villa park’s development. In his 1943 planting plan he strengthened the scenic character of the park with separate clusters of willow, birch and rowan. The two green heads of the pond, with on one side a clearing with groups of trees – mostly birch – and on the other side the private garden of Klompven 8, added panache to the naturally open space. The surrounding villas had an open view on the water. Their gardens formed an indispensable part of the scenic villa park.
’t Klompven remains a very popular residential location to this day.
