LED light cabinet

Plant development and survival greatly depends on the light environment. Light is the energy source for photosynthesis and thus drives all energy-demanding processes in plants. In addition, plants ‘read’ the spectral composition of light to obtain information about their environment.

To study the impact of different light wavelengths on plant development, growth and stress resilience, we use a specialized growth cabinet in which we can tightly control the light quality and quantity. The LED lights can be set from extremely dim (less than 1 micromol of photons/m2/s) up to sunny conditions (1000 micromol of photons/m2/s). The monochromatic red, far-red, blue and green LEDs are used to create the optimal spectral conditions to study how and why plants respond to changing light conditions.
