33 students, researchers and entrepreneurs from 23 countries, spread over 4 continents. Those were the participants in the 2019 Summer School Greenhouse Horticulture of Wageningen University & Research. During the Summer School, participants learned almost everything about crop management and climate management in protected crops in two weeks.

The Wageningen Summer School Greenhouse Horticulture is organized by the business unit Greenhouse Horticulture and the Horticulture and Product Physiology chair group of WUR in collaboration with Wageningen Academy. The aim is to teach a varied, international group a lot in a short time about developments within the covered crops. This happens, for example, during excursions and lectures. In addition, the Summer School is also about social contacts, including evening seminars, dinners and a barbecue at the business unit Greenhouse Horticulture in Bleiswijk.

Enthusiastic participants

The participants in the sixth Summer School in August-September 2019 were very enthusiastic. In their evaluations they gave an average rating of 4.9 (on a scale of 5)! "There was a broad overview of all themes" one of the participants wrote in the evaluation. Another: "All topics I found quite interesting. Biological control I found so exciting."

The multitude of subjects, the teachers and the excursions were particularly appreciated. "The excursions and most of the lectures which were delivered by the better speakers/lecturers with a lot of clarity", said one participant. Another wrote: "The best component are the teachers: really interesting lessons and a lot of kowledge shared."

Is there nothing at all to improve at the Summer School? There is, according to one participant: "The only thing that upset - it was quickly over."
