Unpack your challenge

What is the most sustainable packaging for your fresh products in the long term? While there is rarely an easy answer to this question, clear steps can be taken to ensure a well-founded packaging strategy. Experts from Wageningen University & Research (WUR) will demonstrate this process in the Unpack your challenge project as they work free of charge with three companies to devise a roadmap to a suitable strategy. In return, anonymous versions of the roadmaps will be published so that other companies can also apply the process steps involved. Submit your challenge now to become one of the three companies involved.

Many FMCG companies are looking to ensure their packaging is sustainable before 2030. But how can you define that sustainability for the long term? Packaging lines cannot simply be replaced within a year so how can these goals best be realised in a short timeframe? And what is the most efficient choice economically speaking?

Answering these questions demands a carefully considered packaging strategy (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle or Replace), one which leads to effective and sustainable long-term solutions. Unpack your challenge will see WUR unravel the route to such a strategy by mapping each step and providing all necessary information. This will give companies all the ingredients they need to define or improve their packaging strategy on a scientific basis and achieve their packaging goals much faster.
