How to apply for a master's programme?

Students who want to make an application at Wageningen University & Research need to apply via Studielink. You can submit a request for registration/admission in Studielink.

Starting in February 2022

The following master's programmes start in February 2022:

  • Biosystems Engineering*
  • Biotechnology
  • Biology
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Forest and Nature Conservation
  • Plant Sciences

*While it is possible to start in February, it is recommended to start in September. That way, you will start with the three compulsory courses that give you an overview about the different fields of Biosystems Engineering and you have the best chance to finish your program in two years’ time.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

General requirements

The admission requirements for the master's apply to all MSc programmes of Wageningen University. Individual programmes may have specific requirements in addition to the general requirements.

Enrolment in a MSc programme at Wageningen University requires:

  1. A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a field of science relevant to your selected programme.
  2. Sufficient quality of the bachelor's degree as shown by an average unweighted mark of at least 7 (Dutch system) or the international equivalent of the required quality as determined in the International credentials evaluation guideline.
  3. Fulfil the English requirements of Wageningen University & Research (see below).

Specific requirements

The above admission requirements apply to all MSc programmes at Wageningen University. Individual programmes may have specific requirements in addition to the general requirements. Please check the ‘admission and application’ details per MSc programme for further information.

WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR YOUR APPLICATION?

1. Bachelor's degree

A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Dutch or English (or a certified English translation).

Students in the final year of their bachelor's programme may also apply for admission prior to graduation. The Academic Committee on Admissions can tentatively admit students based on a transcript of their academic records.

Please also upload your master's degree if obtained.

2. Transcript of academic records

An official transcript of records of your bachelor in Dutch or English with your name, logo and official stamp of your university. Please upload an official transcript of records with your marks obtained so far if you have not graduated yet.

3. English Language Requirement

The medium of instruction in all our Master programmes is English. All applicants are asked to provide a valid English language proficiency test with a sufficient score to prove that they meet the English language requirement or, in some cases, can be exempted from providing such a test.

And if not: check B on what uploads we can accept as a sufficient proof of English.

We would like to stress that it is vital to arrange any tests you might need to take to provide this proof (should you not be exempted) as we do not accept any results after certain deadlines have passed. Please check our website for all deadlines.

Be aware that there are two different levels. Please check which level is applicable for the programme(s) you apply for.

4. Statement of motivation/purpose

Explaining why you wish to enrol in the chosen programme(s) and, if applicable, an indication of the programme’s practical value to your profession (one page maximum and in English).

5. Curriculum Vitae or brief personal history

A typed Curriculum Vitae or brief personal history (in English).

Optional: Other documents

It is optional to upload any document in English or Dutch that may enable the Academic Committee to better judge your application. For example: Summary of your Bachelor Thesis report (two pages maximum) or an official letter of recommendation from your professor or employee. The documents should include contact details of your academic supervisor.
