The molecular basis of Ve1 signalling

MSc research projects offered within this theme are:

  • Unravelling the genetic basis of Ve1 signalling in arabidopsis
  • Characterization of EVR1, a novel Arabidopsis gene that mediates high-level Verticillium resistance
  • Functional analyse of candidate genes that are crucial for Ve1-mediated Verticillium resistance in tomato
  • Study of Ve1 expression in Verticillium-resistant tomato
  • Micor-array analysis of interactions between Verticillium and arabidopsis
  • Identification of the Verticillium elicitor that activates Ve1 resistance in tomato

Verticillium pathogenicity factors

We futhermore study proteins that Verticillium secretes while colonizing its host. The proteins are candidate pathogenicity factors, and may be targets for Verticillium control. The family of LysM proteins has are special attention as they occur widely in the fungal kingdom, and they may suppres host defence.

  • Bioinformatic analyse to study (regulation of) Verticillium pathogenicity factors
  • The role of LysM effectors in pathogenicity of Verticillium and other fungal pathogens.
  • Expression of putative Verticillium pathogenicity factors in Arabidopsis to identify suppressors of host defence.
