Learning Dutch Sign Language

Wageningen in’to Languages works together with Radboud in’to Languages. This cooperation means you can choose from a wider range of language courses. A course is taught in Wageningen by Wageningen in’to Languages. If there are fewer than ten participants from Wageningen, the course is taught in Nijmegen at our partner institute Radboud in’to Languages.

Dutch Sign Language for beginners revolves around visual communication. An animated facial expression and effective use of the space around you will help you make yourself understood without words in many different situations. You will gain a firm grasp of the basic vocabulary and grammar of Dutch Sign Language, the language of the deaf community in the Netherlands. In addition, the course will provide a brief introduction to deaf culture.

This eight-week course meets once a week for 1.5 hours. Participants are also expected to spend at least 3 to 4 hours on self-study each week. At the end of the course, you will be given the opportunity to take an exam. The course is offered three times a year: in September, January and April.

WUR staff receives a 10% discount on the regular fee for courses with open registration that take place in Nijmegen. WUR students will be charged a fee of € 90 if they can produce a written statement from the budget holder of the department it concerns. The remaining amount will be billed to the department.
