Introduction
Hi, I am Lotta van Leeuwen, currently 3rd year student of the Bachelor Soil Water and Atmosphere. I am about to take off for New York (state), where I’ll spend the next 5 months.
Getting to know Ithaca
Hi there, how are you doin’? So here I am, in Ithaca. You probably have no clue where on Earth it could be. Well, don’t worry, it is not big nor famous. To start with, Ithaca is an American city -though it sounds like the Greek town our friend Hercules comes from.
Studying at Cornell
I have been studying at Cornell for 6 weeks now and would like to share with you my newly acquired experiences. Cornell is an elite American university, a very proud member of the famous Ivy League. Students pay a lot to get in, about $ 23,000 per semester. Luckily, exchange students have the tuition fee waived which makes this journey actually possible (almost nobody in Europe can afford such prices!).
Sports at Cornell
Dear followers, Today I am going to tell you about sports at Cornell. Americans have quite a different view on sports than we do. We have average level university sports clubs, in which all students can enroll and compete at different levels. At Cornell, there are four ways to do sports.
Spring break in Montreal
Bonjour les amis! After 3.5 intense months at Cornell, it is time for spring break. Finally! I must confess I really needed it. Both my level of stress and fatigue were reaching a peak. Most American students go to the beach for spring break, getting some sun and vitamin D in Miami or Los Angeles. Personally, I had other plans. As I love the cold so much, I decided to spend my one week break up north in Montreal, Canada. I have two high school friends studying there and decided to seize the opportunity to visit them. My Italian friend Chiara joined me for this journey.
Agua Clara in Washington DC
I have recently been to Washington to compete in a student engineering contest under the umbrella of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with as theme P3 (People Planet Prosperity). I was there with a team of 12 Cornell students.
Slope Day
The end of the semester is in sight. The snow has finished melting, trees are flowering, classes are finishing. Similar to Wageningen, there are a few days in between the last day of classes and the exams. But before starting the revisions, Cornell students go wild.
