Lecturer/Researcher

Chizu Sato is Lecturer and Researcher in the Cultural Geography group at Wageningen University. She teaches in consumption, health, economy and ecology from the perspectives of gender and diversity at BSc, MSc and PhD levels. Her research interests lie in the areas of transnational feminism, international development, political economy and ecology with a focus on the intersections of women, empowerment and development. Her current research uses transnational feminist methodologies to explore how socio-ecological wellbeing is produced differently by women in the global South and North when they empower themselves through food production and consumption. Her research recognizes these efforts within webs of interdependencies that include diverse human and nonhuman actors. Her recent work appears in World Development, The International Journal of the Commons and International Political Sociology.

She is a member of the EU H2020-MSCA-ITN-2017 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks (ITN) WEGO (Well-being, Ecology, Gender, and cOmmunity), the coordination team of the 8th International Degrowth Caring Communities for Racial Change as well as the editorial board of Rethinking A Journal of Economics, Culture, and Society.
