I completed my BSc in Biology and my MSc in Biological Sciences (focused in Ecology) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Early in my career, I got intrigued by the dynamics of vegetation and so I did both of my BSc and MSc theses related to that topic conducting fieldwork in a dry forest of Southern Mexico. My PhD project is the continuation of such efforts since now I am focused on understanding the role of species composition and their functional attributes in the resilience of tropical systems.
I want my research to help in the conservation and restoration of all ecological systems, and especially in that of tropical forests. Although my expertise area is ecology, I truly believe that it is compulsory to comprehend that these goals cannot be achieved solely by conducting ecological research and developing better management strategies, but also through the recognition of the social drivers of forest use and degradation. Therefore, I am also interested in deepening in the complex interaction nature-society to, ultimately, attain a holistic vision of forest and their future.
