Assistant Professor (UD1)

I work as an Assistant Professor (UD1, with a tenure-track) at the Information Technology group (INF), Wageningen University (WU). My main research is in the area of Smart Grids and Energy Informatics, using Modeling, Optimization and Artificial Intelligence. This covers smart energy systems design and operation, electricity markets, and smart integration of distributed energy resources (solar energy, electric vehicles, batteries).

I am passionate about Sustainable Energy Transition and believe in the key role Digitalization plays to enable that. From 2012 to 2016, I did my PhD (Cum-Laude) at the Statistical Analysis of Networks and Systems group, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Spain. From 2016 to 2020, I was a postdoc at the Energy & Resources group, Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University, The Netherlands. This gave me a unique experience in combining my background in computer engineering with energy systems, and creating new research contributions with a large focus on the end-user side. Current national and EU "HighLO Energy Markets" (PI, EU), "Sustainable Energy Transition in Greenhouse Horticulture" (PI, national), and "AI ELSA Lab"  (NWO). Past  “Energy Intranets” (NWO), “PARENT” (PI, ERA-NET), “B-DER” (coordinator/PI, TKI Urban Energy, RVO), “Smart EV Solar Charging” (EU) and GO-P2P (IEA, international).

I hold review and board functions for several (inter)national activities/tasks in the area of Energy Informatics, AI and Smart an Associate Editor for Transactions on Smart Grid (IEEE), Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems (IEEE) & Energy Conversion and Economics (IET), a Program Committee member for Climate Change AI workshopManagement Team member of the Netherlands Institute for Research on ICT (4TU.NIRICT)a Senior Member of IEEE, and a Steering Committee member for Smart Energy Systems and Technologies conference. To date, I have supervised +45 MSc/BSc students, 5 PhDs and a postdoc. I teach and coordinate Programming in Python, Big Data and AI courses. I am also the coordinator of BSc Data Science Minor at WU.
