Teacher (nutritional epidemiology), Instructional designer

In 2002 I started my PhD at the Division of Human Nutrition (Wageningen University) on the development of interactive digital learning material for academic education in Human Nutrition and Epidemiology. Besides working on this PhD project, I had an advisory roles in different project e.g. a project on the development of learning material for epidemiology for higher vocational education.

After my PhD I continued with the development of digital learning materials. I contributed to the design of learning material for Nutrigenomics Education within the European Nutrigenomics Organization (NuGO), Within EuroFIR (European Food Information Resource Network) I did develop a interactive training module titled 'nutrient analysis for non chemists'. Within EURRECA (Network of European micronutrient Recommendations Aligned) I did develop a module on 'reproducibility and validity of dietary assessment methods' and on epidemiological study designs.

from 2013 onwards I developed an online distance learning version of our master specialisation 'nutritional epidemiology and public health' which started in september 2015 (four year, part-time programm). This online master programm is characterised by its highly interactive online learning methods. Besides teaching several courses on campus, I'm one of the core teachers in the online master programm.Besides teaching and supervising Bsc and Msc thesis student on epidemiology related topics, currently my main taks is the educational innovation of our courses and supervising a team of lectures.

What I like in all these project is the close connection between 'content knowledge', 'instructional design', 'IT technology' en 'teaching'. I enjoy the collaboration with specialists from all these fields, in order to design high quality instructional materials from which BSc, MSc and PhD students as well as professionals could benefit.
