Reinier Hille Ris Lambers leads the Biodiverse Environment Program at ESG, with a focus on supporting a transformative change to a biodiversity inclusive society.
The current focus of the Biodiverse environment program is on enabling the creation of OneWUR biodiversity initiative, designing a platform for civil society & Impact, and kick-starting a WUR wide dialogue around different perspectives on biodiversity.
After studying Biology in Wageningen and PhD in Theoretical Biology (Amsterdam), Reinier embarked on a career as a scientist, but quickly realized his passion was working with people not computer programming. At Imares (now Wageningen Marine) he was a project leader for National and International Programs around the impact of Marine Windfarms, Fisheries management, and Ecosystem Modelling. At WWF he focused on advising international teams on how to build conservation programs and innovation Strategies, mostly in pertaining to the Marine Environment. He set up and advised an oceans- focused cohort of start ups within the WWF Impact Ventures program and coached start-ups both on impact, strategy and communications, and was responsible for investment decisions as part of the investment committee. In addition to this he also worked in collaboration with Rabo, the Northsea foundation, and Flora and Fauna International to develop sustainable seafood financing standards.
To understand more about business and strategy, he recently completed an executive MBA (RSM,2018) where he focused on strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship specifically around impact, examining how organizational culture enables and/or inhibits innovation as part of his "In company" thesis.
