Biodiversity is declining and conserving nature reserves alone is not enough to stop this trend. Therefore, road verges -which make up 1.24 % of the total area of the Netherlands- become increasingly important for their conservation value, as potential refuges for declining species and as corridors between natural areas. However, recent evidence suggests that climate change may threaten biodiversity of road verges and that management strategies that were beneficial in the past may not necessarily be beneficial with a changing climate. I aim to find the optimal method of managing road verges for a biodiverse and climate change resistant future.
