Michele is a software developer who specializes in studying eating behavior through the use of AI and computer vision. For his Ph.D. at Wageningen University and Research, Michele is developing a system that can detect bites, chews, swallows, and sips, which significantly reduces the time and errors involved in manual annotation of meal video recordings. His project is expected to benefit researchers in future eating behavior studies by providing faster and more reliable measurements.

Michele holds a BSc degree in Biotechnology from the University of Rome, La Sapienza, and a Honors MSc degree in Biomolecular Sciences from the University of Groningen. During his academic journey, he gained expertise in genomics, specifically RNA-Sequencing, GWAS, and bioinformatics, while working at the University of Groningen and the Genome Institute of Singapore. His passion for nutrition sparked when he pursued further studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he explored the metabolic effects of Mediterranean and high-fat diets on psychiatric disorders.
