Olivier’s research focuses on developing new tools and methods that support the development of sustainable aquaculture in coastal areas by combining economic, social and biological perspectives to understand farmer’s decision-making and trends of changes in aquaculture farming systems at landscape level.
Olivier Joffre has been working as researcher and consultant in aquaculture and rural development for the last 14 years, mostly in South and South East Asia. Olivier work focuses on innovation on fisheries management and small-scale aquaculture systems. Olivier is currently a PhD candidate with Wageningen University (The Netherlands). His dissertation investigates new approach combining participatory tools, agent based modelling, spatial analysis and aquaculture farming system analysis to better plan coastal aquaculture, using the Mekong Delta (Vietnam) a case study.
