Dendrochronology is a tool for forest historical research. Based on tree ring research it is possible to reconstruct e.g. flooding events, forest fires, age and origin of trees.
Dendrogeomorphology is the application of dendrochronology to study changes to the Earth's surface over time. It is used to describe relations between the origin of a landform and the dynamics of its alteration caused by e.g. aeolian or fluvial processes with high (annual) precision. In this regard, the dating and reconstruction of past geomorphic processes such as sand storms, landslides and debris f lows, and the determination of their repetition intervals are of special importance to reveal landform development, and to be able to predict future topographic changes in relation to climate and landscape changes.
