WP4

Objectives

The overall objectives of this WP are:

  • To develop the knowledge and tools for the assessment of the specific impacts of CC and translation into key indicators identified in WP2
  • To provide the indicator calculation pathways to be incorporated in the analytical tool (WP5)
  • To provide expert knowledge and modelling components for the indicator calculations in the analytical tool (WP5) This WP can be further subdivided in 4 different tasks which have specific objectives.
    • Task 4.1 Impacts on producer income and agricultural markets
      • To obtain EU-wide indicators for producer income effects and production structure at regional level - To obtain indicators of potential market effects which are relevant for consumers’ welfare (prices and trade).
      • To translate as much as possible and relevant for allocation decisions, producer cost and direct policy impacts of CC-measures (stocking density….) into CAPRI-specifications
      • Perform ex-ante impact analysis with CAPRI simulations, reflecting parameter uncertainty through intelligent sensitivity analysis using scenario techniques.
      • To provide scenario input for other models and indicator calculations (e.g. nitrate leaching in spatial scale)
    • Task 4.2 Impacts on water, soil, air and climate change
      • To integrate knowledge and tools for the assessment of the specific impacts of CC on air, soil (erosion, organic matter, structure) and water quality indicators (nutrients loads, pesticides) identified in WP2 based on available) regional scale (INITIATOR2, Miterra Europe) models, field level scale (EPIC) and rivershed (SWAT) hydroliogical models.
      • To further develop knowledge and tools for the assessment of the specific impacts of CC on air quality and climate change indicators identified in WP2 based on field level (DNDC) mechanistic models and farm level (e. g. CAPRI, FASSET) mass-flow models.
      • To develop simplified functions to be included in the in the simplified regional integrated model for the assessment of the specific impacts of CC on air quality and climate change indicators (mainly green house gas emssions) identified in WP2
      • To assess impacts of CC on water, soil, air and climate change using the input data from WP3 and the knowledge and tools identified
      • To provide the indicator calculation pathways to be incorporated in the analytical tool (WP5)
    • Task 4.3 Impacts on land use change, biodiversity and landscape
      • To develop knowledge and tools for the assessment of the specific impacts of CC on land use change needed as input for the assessment of other environmental indicators and for the calculation of the land use change indicators identified in WP2
      • To develop knowledge and tools for the assessment of the specific impacts of CC on biodiversity indicators identified in WP2 - To develop knowledge and tools for the assessment of the specific impacts of CC on landscape indicators identified in WP2
      • To assess the impacts of CC on land use, biodiversity and landscape using the input data from WP3 and the knowledge and tools identified
      • To provide the indicator calculation pathways to be incorporated in the analytical tool (WP5)
    • Task 4.4 Impacts on food safety, animal welfare and health
      • To assess the impact of CC-measures on food safety, animal welfare and health based on indicators identified in WP 2.
      • To develop an appropriate methodology for assessing achievements with respect to these issues by either integrating them into the partial equilibrium model used in WP 4.1 or by using other approaches to be identified as appropriate like the analysis of existing pooled data on the indicators or the examination of expert surveys.
      • Definition of scenarios (degree of compliance etc.) and impact analyses for selected cases (selected measures or regions) based on availability of data and expert knowledge.
