Fair and functional land use
Wageningen Environmental Research studies the impact of land use and land cover change (LUCC) on the functioning of socioeconomic and environmental systems with important trade-offs for sustainability, food security, biodiversity and the vulnerability of people and ecosystems to global change impacts.
Key to understanding LUCC is to recognize the role of individual decision-makers bringing about change, through their decisions, on land resources and technologies. We provide planning support tools for insight in the consequences of decision-making by national governments, provinces and municipalities. Our added value lies in the fact that we connect the provision of data and maps with the development of a cross-sectoral participation and decision process. As such we develop and support a process of vision formulation (in the Netherlands: Omgevingsvisie), implementation and monitoring of the impact of land use decisions.
