The activities of Wageningen Seed Science Centre (WSSC) address the following challenge: "To produce enough food and raw material to sustain mankind while achieving an appropriate balance between the exploitation of natural resources and the maintenance of the environment".

WSSC contributes to capacity-building in the seed sector of many countries worldwide through education, research and project execution. WSSC operates in several national and international projects. Much attention is given to the transfer of technology to organisations and people in developing countries.

WSSC has a wide variety of clients: universities, national and international research institutes, non-governmental organisations (NGO's) and actors in the private and public seed industry. WSSC cooperates with several affiliated institutes in the Netherlands, including the Netherlands General Inspection Service for Agricultural Seeds and Seed Potatoes (NAK) and the Netherlands Inspection Service for Horticulture (Naktuinbouw).
