Increasing the satiating properties of food products is one option from the multitude of possible intervention strategies agro-food companies can pick. In recent years a number of functional foods have appeared that lead to early meal termination (satiation) or lead to prolonged feeling of fullness (satiety).
The European food industry is challenged to come up with new food products that help consumers to maintain (or lose) weight. Many companies lack the required knowledge base to improve their existing product portfolio or expand into new markets. Furthermore, the new European claim regulation demands solid science to support health claims.
