SWEEP Municipalities

The municipalities Papendrecht, Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, Alblasserdam, Leiden and Dordrecht continued with weed control according to the SWEEP guidelines in 2005. Each municipality assigned one or more quarters for weed control to the same or a larger area compared with 2004.

Papendrecht and Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht: same area as 2004, approx. 7 to 10 hectares each; Alblasserdam: an increase from 2 to 10 hectares; Leiden applied the concept to the whole city, >250 hectares. Early 2005 the city council of Dordrecht decided to use non-chemical weed control methods in the whole city area, except for an area of maximum 2% (≈ 5-10 hectares).

In addition the following municipalities continued or started with weed control according to the SWEEP concept in 2005: Vianen, Lelystad, Zwijndrecht, Giessenlanden, Rotterdam, Venlo, Westellingwerf, Krimpen ad IJssel, Noord Beveland, Oss, Haarlem and Den Bosch. They were all invited to join the User/Expert group where they got basic training and support in applying the new concept at the level of real management units. During these meetings they could share experiences with the partner-municipalities.
