Scholarships for international master's students
Wageningen University aims to attract talented international students to its international classroom by offering several scholarship opportunities. Below you will find an overview of the scholarships available for prospective international MSc students.
- The scholarship programmes offered by Wageningen University are for prospective students only. WU does not offer scholarship programmes for students who are starting their 2nd MSc year.
- The scholarship selection procedures for the academic year of 2025-2026 (September start) have been completed.
- Information about scholarships for the academic year 2026-2027 will be available end of 2025.
Scholarships based on invitation (academic year 2025-2026)
The Excellence Programme is initiated by Wageningen University & Research to attract excellent students for a Master’s programme, and who might have the potential to do a PhD after their MSc graduation in Wageningen or elsewhere.
For who
International MSc students from outside the European Economic Area (including Switzerland) starting an MSc programme in September 2026 who have unconditional admission.
Components of the scholarship
A tuition fee waiver for the duration of the programme (24 months)
Requirements
- You are citizen of a country outside the European Economic Area (and Switzerland)
- You have submitted a complete application for one of the MSc programmes at Wageningen University & Research before the given deadline. Please see: How can I apply for the master’s programme?
- You are unconditionally admitted to this MSc programme
- You have a high GPA of 80% or higher. A First Class honours BSc graduation or equivalent is required.
MSc application deadline
1 February 2026. All MSc applications that have been submitted before this deadline will be assessed by the selection committee.
Can I apply for this scholarship?
This scholarship is based on invitation. It’s not possible to apply directly. If the requirements stated above apply to you, and you have applied for an MSc programme before the given deadline, you could be eligible for an invitation to the Excellence Programme selection procedure.
The selection committee will coordinate the selection and will inform the invited candidates about the next steps in the selection.
On 7 May 2026, the result of the selection process will be communicated to all invited candidates.
The Africa Scholarship Programme (ASP) offers talented and motivated students from Africa the unique opportunity to pursue a Master’s degree at Wageningen University and to support capacity building in Africa.
Components of the scholarship
- Travel to and from The Netherlands
- Living allowance for the duration of the programme (24 months)
- Tuition fee coverage for the duration of the programme (24 months)
- Visa costs and costs for health insurance
Requirements
- You are a citizen of an African country.
- You have submitted a complete application for one of the master’s programmes of Wageningen University & Research before the given deadline. Please see: How can I apply for the master’s programme?
- You are unconditionally admitted to this MSc programme.
- You are an excellent student with a First class honours degree and a GPA of 80% or higher in a bachelor's degree.
- Preference is given to students who have not obtained a master’s degree
yet.
Only if you meet all of the above mentioned requirements you could be eligible for an invitation to the Africa Scholarship Programme selection procedure.

The Anne van den Ban Fund allows talented students from developing countries to study at Wageningen University. The scholarships are assigned to students in close cooperation with the university and are combined with the WU Fellowship Programme.

The NL Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and several Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. This scholarship is meant for international students from one of the selected countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who wish to pursue a master’s degree in the Netherlands.
Available scholarships: 8 Scholarships.
Start MSc programme: September 2026
Components of the scholarship
If you are selected as a beneficiary of the NL Scholarship you will receive a one-time payment of € 5.000 in the first year of your studies. The selection committee has the option to grant a double scholarship of € 10.000 or a triple scholarship of € 15.000.
Important notes:
- The NL Scholarship will not be deducted from your tuition fee invoice.
- The NL Scholarship is not a full scholarship.
- The costs costs of living, visa and insurance are not covered by this scholarship.
Requirements
- You are an excellent student with a GPA of 80% or higher
- You are citizen of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America or Vietnam.
- You have (un-)conditional admission to one of our on campus MSc programmes.
- You did not participate in a degree programme in the Netherlands before.
* Please note that this scholarship will not be offered to students with a double nationality (EU/EEA and Non-EEA nationality).
Selection procedure
Step 1: Invitations for NL Scholarship application
Once (un-)conditionally admitted to one of the MSc programmes, candidates will be automatically invited to apply if all requirements are met.
The invitations to apply for the NL Scholarship will be send from 1 February 2026 on (on a weekly base).
Step 2: Apply before 1 May 2026
Candidates who have received an invitation to apply for the NL Scholarship have to complete their application before 1 May 2026. From this date on it is no longer possible to apply.
Step 3: Selection process
Note: The NL Scholarship is financially supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and is administrated by Nuffic. As part of the scholarship programme the university is obliged to share the following details with both parties:
Awardees: Complete name, gender, date of birth, nationality, email address, country of prior education, name of Dutch university and programme for which the scholarship has been awarded.
Rejected candidates: Nationality, name of Dutch university and programme for which the applicant applied.
The NL Scholarship is made available by: Wageningen University & Research | VSNU (Association of Universities in the Netherlands) | Nuffic | Netherlands Association of Universities of Applied Sciences | Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
