Open Education

With Open Education, WUR shares its high-quality educational practices and resources with everyone, independent of time, place, or cost. WUR encourages educators to share the educational materials that we develop for our students with the world.
Under the UNESCO definition, Open Educational Resources (OER) are “learning, teaching and research materials in any format and medium … released under an open license, that permit no-cost access, re-use, re-purposing, adaptation, and redistribution by others”. These can include textbooks, course readers, lecture slides, or videos that educators worldwide can freely share and adapt. By removing barriers of time, place, and cost, OER promote collaboration, innovation, and personalised learning for diverse audiences.
WUR supports the creation and sharing of OER through its Open Science & Education Programme and Open Education policy. Staff are encouraged to develop and share materials under the Creative Commons CC BY-NC license, allowing non-commercial use and adaptation. WUR also contributes to the Npuls programme, which enhances digital learning resources, and participates in the Dutch libraries working group on online and open education.
