Deforestation alert drivers on Global Nature Watch

Global Nature Watch deforestation alert drivers

Webinar WRI's Global Nature Watch Deforestation

Activity
  • 8 September 2026
  • 16.00 - 17.00 h

Tomorrow at 16:00, we’re hosting a webinar on a new dataset going live on WRI's Global Nature Watch (formerly Global Forest Watch): operational monthly updates on the drivers behind deforestation alerts across the tropics.

This system uses satellite imagery and AI to distinguish the likely causes of the detected tree cover loss events at fine scale, such as agriculture, mining, logging, fire, and natural disturbances.

During the webinar, we will demonstrate the methodology, data access, and applications to support forest monitoring and action. We're expecting a large audience across disciplines and sectors, so we’re looking forward to a lively discussion. Please join us if you are interested!

The system builds on research developed during my PhD, and our accompanying paper presenting a multi-year pantropical record of tree cover loss drivers will soon be published in Nature Communications. If you have any questions about the dataset or its potential applications, feel free to reach out.
