Summary
This PhD research explores how consuming galactose, a natural sugar found in breastmilk, during early life can exert long-term health. Using mice and fruit flies, the study investigated whether consumption of galactose in infancy could prevent adult obesity or extend lifespan. This work highlights that early-life nutrition creates lasting biological effects. Understanding how specific sugars like galactose influence metabolism helps us refine infant formula and nutritional guidelines, potentially offering a simple way to improve lifelong health and combat the global obesity crisis from the very start of life.
