The Wageningen Global Sustainability Programme presents the second edition of the SDG Concert, taking place on 12 and 13 June 2026 in Omnia at the invitation of rector magnificus Carolien Kroeze.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are seventeen global goals aimed at creating a better world by 2030. With this concert, science and music come together to highlight the many ways in which research contributes to a more sustainable future.
Music and stories
Four Wageningen professors, Edith Feskens, Sijmen Schoustra, Hester Biemans and Cathelijne Stoof, share engaging stories connected to the SDGs. How can a drinking yoghurt in Zambia contribute to women’s empowerment? Why are wildfires having an increasing impact? Did you know the world has a “third pole”, and how essential it is for the food security of millions of people? And how can the world eat healthily?
The musical programme, performed by symphony orchestra Sonante, reinforces these stories. The evening features the radiant opening of Franz Berwald’s opera Estrella, the playful orchestral version of Erik Satie’s Trois morceaux en forme de poire, the majestic fourth movement of Robert Schumann’s Rhenish Symphony, the powerful First Overture by Louise Farrenc and the spectacular Ritual Fire Dance by Manuel de Falla.
