Summary

Livestock houses are potential sources of emission of ammonia, particulate matter, bio-aerosols and odor. These emissions may affect the surrounding environment by contributing to eutrophication or acidification of the soil or with adverse impacts on public health. There is therefore a need for methods and strategies to measure the various emission components from livestock houses, in order to gain insight into emission levels and to determine the potential effects of livestock management practices on these emissions. In this thesis several methods and strategies were investigated to quantify emissions of especially particulate matter and ammonia from livestock houses. By improving both reference measurements and continuous measurements of emissions from livestock houses, this research contributes to the development of emission monitoring and precision livestock farming.
