SKOV seminar - Perspectives on decolonisation

On 11 February 2026, the Study Circle for Development Issues SKOV, Ipso-Facto, Vice Versa and Mpologoma Media will organise the seminar: “Perspectives on decolonisation. Debunking prejudices: reforming ways of thinking”. Alumni of Wageningen University & Research (WUR) are cordially invited.
SKOV Seminar Perspectives on decolonisation. Debunking notions: reshaping mindsets
The term of decolonisation has been buzzing during the past years. Wageningen students, scientists and professionals are aware of the need to change present relations and practises and uncertain about what it means and how his could get shape. Ipso Facto and the Study Circle for Development Issues SKOV, decided to organise three seminars on this topic of decolonisation. The first seminar is meant to explore visions from the Global South in the ongoing decolonisation debates and visions of Dutch staff/students and professionals. Are there hardly recognised prejudices or assumptions about each other?
We sought cooperation with Vice Versa, working on an interesting and challenging project with Mpologoma Media in Uganda. This project Debunking Notions: Reshaping Mindsets is a long-term multimedia and dialogue initiative that challenges deeply rooted clichés and assumptions shaping relations between Africa and Europe. The project departs from a simple but urgent premise: before we can speak of equal partnerships, we first need to recognise and unlearn the stereotypes we carry about each other. The project has, in the Arua Dialogue, already produced conversations and insights, which have resulted into the Arua Recommendations. During the seminar we will reflect upon and learn about these recommendations. Rather than offering definitive answers, the programme will focus on dialogue, discomfort and critical self-reflection.
