The webinar Agrivoltaics in St. Eustatius (Statia) on combining solar energy with agriculture, will take place on Friday June 26th.
The webinar is based on a hands-on pilot project on Statia in the STUCO solar park, led by Haskoning and carried out together with the St. Eustatius Farmers’ Foundation (SEFF), Wageningen University & Research and Cambisol. The project is commissioned by Expertise France (EU) under the Green Overseas (GO) programme, and takes place in collaboration with the Government of St. Eustatius.
Over the past two growing seasons, we have been testing how crops perform under solar panels. We have grown different crops such as lettuce and pak choy, researching their potential for sustainable food production on the island.
During the webinar the following topics will be covered:
- A detailed technical introduction to the pilot experiment
- Assessment of the feasibility of agrivoltaics with findings on effects on soil moisture, temperature, crop yield and market opportunities
- Recommended steps for upscaling agrovoltaics in Statia and in the wider Caribbean region
Programme
- Welcome and introduction
- Agrivoltaics explained: what is it and how is it set up on St. Eustatius?
- What we found: results from growing crops on St. Eustatius
- Premiere of a short video on sustainable small-scale food production in the Caribbean
- Q&A session
Moderated by Teun Vogel (Cambisol).
We hope you can join us for this interactive and practical session.
