On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October 2026, the nationwide initiative Science Weekend (Weekend van de Wetenschap) will take place. Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is taking part again this year. From 1 September, the full programme will be available online, featuring all activities organised as part of the Science Weekend.
Wageningen: a hotspot for science
This year, Wageningen is once again one of the designated hotspots: a place where a variety of activities and participants can be found within close proximity of one another. Organisations in and around Wageningen Campus will open their doors, giving visitors the opportunity to discover a wide range of science and innovation.
WUR is organising a diverse programme for visitors of all ages. Discover the hidden world beneath our feet, take part in a large earthworm race, go behind the scenes of food innovation and find out how genetic diversity is preserved. Unravel the secrets of plants and get hands-on with research and experiments. Creative minds can also get involved by creating art using soil and soil organisms.
In addition to WUR, the Jan IngenHousz Institute, NIOO and Flavourtech are also taking part in the Science Weekend. They too are organising activities in and around Wageningen Campus. So there is plenty to discover, experience and learn in Wageningen, with different activities and locations all within easy reach of one another.
