Alumni story Rivan Rinaldi

Rivan Rinaldi
Executive Director at Rumoh Pangan Aceh (nonprofit organisation)

My Masters degree equipped me with the knowledge to design and implement sustainable agricultural systems, skills I now apply in Indonesia to drive long-term impact.

After completing my Masters Plant Sciences, specializing in Natural Resource Management, I worked as a Regenerative Agriculture Coordinator at Aluan, an international producer of organic virgin coconut oil. For three years, I supported over 1,000 farmers in adopting regenerative practices, improving both soil health and livelihoods.

In June 2024, I founded Rumoh Pangan Aceh (RPA), a nonprofit focused on food security, reducing food waste, improving nutrition, and helping farmers transition from conventional to regenerative agriculture. The idea was inspired by my experience in the YSEALI Professional Fellowship Program, hosted by the Farm Alliance of Baltimore.

In less than a year, RPA has partnered with over 100 farmers, distributed more than 5,000 healthy meals, rescued 4 tons of food, and led more than 100 community programs. We’ve reached over 5,000 households and collaborate with 10 frontline organizations. Our partnership with GAIN to develop jack bean as a sustainable alternative to imported soy highlights our mission to build a more just and resilient food system in Aceh.
