Education of the Animal Nutrition Group

Our thesis topics vary considerably and can cover a whole range of animal species, research techniques and disciplines of animal nutrition. Most of our students take part in our research projects and their work contributes significantly to project results. We are open for your suggestions to create a palatable and challenging in-depth MSc thesis. Before starting the thesis research, you will require some degree of nutritional knowledge. The latter can be gained by attending all three ANU courses or - at least - the relevant ANU courses for your Major or Minor thesis.

Compulsory course Minor thesis

• Animal Nutrition & Physiology (animal-related subject) or Feed Technology (technology-related subject)

You can conduct a thesis with a workload of 36 or 39 ECTS for a Major thesis and of 24, 27, 30, or 33 ECTS for a Minor thesis. The aim of this thesis research is to train your academic skills by means of an in-depth, scientific study on a subject of your interest.

Our MSc internships provide you with an opportunity to broaden your scientific horizon and to strengthen your professional skills and attitude in an organisation outside Wageningen University. The internship provides you the opportunity to work outside Wageningen University at a host organisation in The Netherlands or abroad, e.g. a company, public institution, consultancy firm, research organisation, another university or non-governmental organisation, thereby broadening your academic horizon.

An internship can only be conducted after having obtained your BSc degree or the approval of the BSc study coordinator and preferably prior to your major thesis. The length of the ANU internship should be equivalent to the time of 24 ECTS (4.2 months) as a minimum up to 39 ECTS. Start the process of finding an internship at least 6 months before the intended start of your internship. Before you leave to start your internship at the host institution you should have handed in a signed internship contract (signed by you, the internship host and the University) and a signed internship learning agreement (signed by you and your WU supervisor) at the ANU secretariat. The Animal Nutrition Group provides education and training at BSc, MSc and PhD level within Wageningen University & Research. Staff members offer specialised BSc and MSc courses in animal nutrition as part of the Animal Sciences programme and contribute to post-graduate courses organised by Wageningen Academy and the graduate school Wageningen Institute of Animal Sciences (WIAS).

In addition to the courses listed below, we are involved in various multidisciplinary courses, including Companion Animals and Introduction to Animal Sciences.
