European Master’s Animal Biodiversity and Genomics (EMABG, double degree)
Are you interested in animal breeding? Do you have a passion for genetics, genomics and biodiversity? Do you enjoy working in a truly international environment? Then you are the right candidate for the European Master’s in Animal Biodiversity and Genomics!
International partners: BOKU, Austria; SLU, Sweden; NMBU, Norway; UGOE, Germany; AgroParisTech, France. The programme is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, including scholarschips for EU and non-EU students.
Note: within this programme, Wageningen University offers a double degree together with NMBU in Norway. See emabg.eu for the overview of all study tracks within the EMABG programme.
Study programme
The domain of animal breeding and genetics had undergone a revolution in the past decade. The availability of high throughput genomic data as well asl phenotypic data from automated recording systems resulted in a dramatic change in the understanding of genetic mechanisms and the way in which livestock, aquaculture and other animal species are bred. The European Master in Animal Biodiversity and Genomics (EMABG), a 2-year Master course, responds to a sharply increased demand of industry, academia and society for people who are expert in reflecting and dealing with this kind of data.
The EMABG is a 2-year study programme (120 ETCS) and builds on MSc courses that already exist in the different consortium universities. It focuses on the development of scientific expertise in the areas of quantitative, population and molecular genetics and genomics related to animal biodiversity and breeding.
Five areas of specialisation
Study at 2 of 6 leading European universities that ensure the excellence in teaching and research in animal biodiversity, breeding and genomics. Specialise in one of the following areas:
- Conservation genomics for rare and endangered breeds and species;
- Designing and implementing breeding programmes for small populations;
- Bioinformatics applied to biodiversity and genomics;
- One health: Health and welfare in humans and animals;
- Understanding biodiversity: integrative biology.
