Study Programme – European MSc Earth and Environment (double degree)

The MSc EnvEuro is a two-year double degree programme (120 EC) that combines studying at Wageningen University and at one of our partner universities. The programme follows a home-host structure where you spend your first year at your home university and your second year at your host university. This page describes the programme structure when choosing Wageningen University as your home university.

First year at Wageningen University (home)

Your first year consists of two main components - the Basic Semester Package and Advanced Semester Package 1. While these packages are conceptually linked to the first and second semester, there is some flexibility in scheduling courses throughout the year to optimise your learning path.

Basic Semester Package (30 EC)

  • Environmental Management in Europe (12 EC) - A collaborative course connecting all EnvEuro students across partner universities. Through online learning and joint introduction days in Vienna, you’ll work with peers from across Europe on environmental management challenges.
  • Environmental Data Collection and Analysis (6 EC)
  • Academic Master Cluster (12 EC) - Choose between:
    • Academic Consultancy Training: Work in a multidisciplinary team on real-world projects for external clients, developing professional consultancy skills
    • Design of Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies: Focus on developing comprehensive strategies to address climate change challenges

Advanced Semester Package 1 (30 EC)

Choose courses from your specialisation:

  • Water Resources
  • Soil Resources and Land Use
  • Climate Change
  • Environmental Management

Each specialisation has its own restricted optional courses that train you to become an expert in that field. You’ll take at least 18 EC from your specialisation’s restricted optional courses. In your electives you can decide to follow more courses from your specialisation, but you can also follow courses from the other specialisations or even other master’s programmes. The electives therefore help you to develop yourself optimally in the subjects of your interest. For more information on the courses in the specialisations the page Specialisations.

Second year at Partner University (host)

Your second year focuses entirely on your chosen specialisation through advanced courses and thesis research. Note that not all specialisations are offered at every partner university - you’ll need to carefully consider which host university aligns with your specialisation interests.

Advanced Semester Package 2 (30 EC)

Continue your specialisation with advanced courses at your host university, tailored to your interests and career goals.

MSc Thesis (30 EC)

Complete your studies with thesis research at your host university with co-supervision from Wageningen University. The thesis represents the culmination of your expertise in your chosen specialisation.
