Highlights of this course

Highlights

This online master's specialisation is designed as a part-time study. The approximate workload is 20 hours per week and gives the student the flexibility to combine work and study. The programme is therefore also suitable for employees who want to continue their education in the sense of life-long-learning.

Our team of researchers and teachers here at the Wageningen University offer you to build up a strong theoretical background.

Programme Nutritional Epidemiology and Public Health

We will train you to become acquainted with the latest scientific methodologies. We have a fixed number and order of courses in our online master. When you choose this master you will specialise yourself through:

  • Several courses in epidemiology, by understanding what is epidemiology but also how to carry out a thorough data analysis on epidemiological data.
  • To understand this, you need a course in statistics to provide you with a good basis.
  • You will also gain knowledge in how to assess and evaluate dietary intake and nutritional status.
  • You will gain knowledge on nutritional physiology and how to carry out a randomized controlled trial.
  • You will get insight on the role of diet, lifestyle and body composition in the prevention and progression of cancer, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus and its treatment.
  • And last but not least you will be introduced to the public health cycle which is a planning model used by professionals in the field of public health in order to plan, implement and evaluate policies and programs.
Course-programme
The general structure is a 2 year part time course-programme followed by a tailor-made internship and master's thesis agreement of 1 or 2 years.

Future career

Graduates from the master's Nutrition and Health greatly value the research skills they acquired in the programme. After graduation, many of them begin working as researchers or PhD students. Another group becomes advisors, trainers or take up other jobs in the private sector.

The majority of graduates finds employment at universities (including university medical centres), research institutes (TNO Nutrition or RIVM), in the public sector (national, regional and local governments, Netherlands Nutrition Centre, District Health Authorities, World Food Programme, WHO, FAO) and some find employment in companies involved with nutrition and health. As graduates progress in their careers, they usually advance to a (more) managerial level. Graduates work in both developing and developed countries.

WUR week

While this master's program is conducted entirely online, there is one

your peers, and explore the campus. Additionally, we will provide guided tours
of notable companies on campus, such as Unilever.

Tuition fees

The programme’s tuition fees depend on your nationality. EU-students pay the statutory tuition fees just like the University’s on-campus students. Non-EU students get a 50% reduction of the regular on-campus tuition fees for Non-EU/EFTA students outside Europe.
