This course combines engaging online lectures with diverse assignments designed by experts from Wageningen University & Research, and guest lecturers from ArtEZ. The curriculum includes self-paced learning activities, such as short knowledge clips, readings, assignments, and recap questions.
In four modules you will delve into the properties of available biobased materials and progress to designing garments using sustainable design principles.
Module 1 | Biobased textile industry
We will begin by examining the current state of the textile industry, exploring its value chains, and highlighting the critical need to move away from the traditional linear "make-use-dispose"-model
Module 2 | Biobased design
In this module, we will explore the design considerations and potential applications of bio-based materials in textiles. To effectively transform design practices, however, we first need to gain a deeper understanding of the materials themselves.
Module 3 | Biobased materials
In this module, you will learn about the key differences between fibers and materials, with a focus on their properties and characteristics, and explore the opportunities these distinctions present
Module 4 | Systemic change
Finally, we will explore methods and tools for driving systemic change in the textile industry
