Are you curious about Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), such as Copilot and ChatGPT? Would you like to learn more about how to leverage this new technology to work more efficiently? This beginner-friendly workshop explains in simple language what GenAI is, what it can and cannot do, and how to use it safely and responsibly in your day-to-day work. We focus on practical steps you can apply immediately while keeping ethics, privacy, and your own judgement at the centre.
Content and approach
In this interactive workshop, we will take you through the basics of GenAI using demos and hands-on exercises. You will work on a short text or task from your own context, so make sure you have something to work on and bring your laptop. The workshop lasts three hours.
What will be covered?
- What GenAI is and what it can do
A plain language tour of popular GenAI tools and common uses such as drafting emails, outlining lessons, summarising reports, idea generation and adjusting tone and style of texts. - Responsible practice first
Protect privacy and confidential data, spot and reduce bias, credit sources fairly, be open about tool use, and keep human oversight. - Critical evaluation
Check facts, audience fit and tone, and decide when not to use AI at all. - Effective prompting
Learn to write clear and structured prompts: state your goal and specify limits, ask for one step at a time, review a small sample, then adjust your prompt to improve GenAI outputs. - Choosing tools wisely
Compare various GenAI tools and pick what fits teaching, research and workplace tasks.
What is the outcome of this workshop?
Having completed this workshop, you will:
- be familiar with various GenAI tools and know which one to use when;
