Funding your PhD

Intro

There are two ways to fund your PhD position: apply for an already funded position via a vacancy, or find your own funding.

WGS Sandwich PhD programme

WGS Sandwich PhD programme

Do you have an innovative research idea and would you like to pursue a PhD at Wageningen University & Research? The WGS Sandwich PhD programme might be for you. Apply for a position and receive a grant that covers living allowance for 18 months.

WU-CAAS programme

WU-CAAS programme

Wageningen University (WU) and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) have a collaborative PhD programme to strengthen their collaboration with joint PhD projects. PhD candidates are supervised by WU and CAAS supervisors and a WU promotor, as the defence is in Wageningen. The call for projects starting in 2026 is currently open. WU and CAAS scientists interested in setting up or strengthening collaboration are warmly invited to submit a proposal. Note that PhD candidates cannot submit an application or initiate the contact for collaboration themselves. They can be either listed in the application as a potential candidate or apply via the CAAS website.
